Zenfolio | Forgotten Isle | Peel Hill Slate Quarries

Behind Peel Hill are the remains of two slate quarries. I’m unsure of when work first began at the quarries, but they were in use in 1863, with around eighty men working them.
There was a tramway to ship the slates from the side of the hill down to the quay. There are now no traces of the tramway, but a stone path in its place, used by the fishing industry, everyday a wagon climbs the hill to dump empty scallop shells and other remains over the cliffs.
